What the devil is

Argument:

Latin ‘diabolus’ is devil, and Satan.
Di, according to Google, is "God" Wrong
Dia, according to Google, is "day" Wrong
Bolus, according to dictionary, is in Norwegian “kast, fangst, uventet virkning”.

My dictionary is “Latinsk Ordbok” by the school principals Johanssen, Nygaard, Schreiner” and is read through by Dr. S. Pantzerhielm Thomas. It was published in 1921 in Kristiana by J.W. Cappelens Forlag, and is written in Gothic.

It says,
Dialecticus = dialektikk, logikk
Dialogus = dialog

According to the Norwegian dictionary “Bokmålsordboka”, made by Avdeling for leksigografi ved institutt for nordistikk og litteraturvitenskap, Universitetet i Oslo, i samarbeid med Norsk språkråd, 2. edition, reliesed in 1993 by Universitetsforlaget in Oslo, the words «djevel» and «Satan» are different.

  • Djevel comes from norrønt ‘djϱfull’. I think that word must be related to the verb “die”, though I cannot prove it.
  • Satan is Norwegian through Latin from Hebrew “enemy”. That means, Satan is occupied with making oppositions.
